D-COMP is a sustainable alternative to glass fibre and carbon fibre, with much higher performance properties than glass and similar performance to carbon fibre. Unlike glass and carbon fibre, which are synthetic materials often ending up in landfill, D-COMP is a natural, inorganic material that minimises manufacturing waste, and is substantially easier to recycle at the end of life
The use of non-recyclable materials and the process of building marine vessels significantly impact the overall lifetime carbon footprint of the vessel, sometimes accounting for over 80% of related greenhouse gas emissions.
Most vessels under 120ft are constructed from GRP composites, a process that is energy-intensive and involves harmful chemicals.
GRP usage is rising by 10% annually. There is an urgent need for sustainable material innovation, and to rethink how we build the future of marine transport
D-COMP is highly compatible with other materials (metals, plastics, and adhesives) used during the production process.
